July : Embodiment and Metaphors in Playback Theater

July 18-19th, 2026 (Valence, France)

This training is particularly aimed at international playbackers recently arrived in France. Lets meet and practice together !

Topic Our bodies are powerful, sensitive, and versatile tools for telling stories. We will drop into, use, play with, enjoy, and see what emerges from our body.

Let it enable us to explore meaning and story by translating ideas and feelings into different types of movement - both concrete and metaphorical.

Strengthen Arts practice skills :

  • DEVELOP deeper physicality and embodiment aesthetics as a universal language

  • LEARN to better capture, transform and narrate the story’s essence in movement, metaphor, body and space

  • DEEPEN presence, authenticity and ensemble work

  • EXPLORE human connection, personal story, and the potential of embodied practice

  • (RE)DISCOVER skilful responses in motion, music, dance, and metaphorical realism

  • DEVELOP ways to shift states and connect mind, body, and spirit

  • LEARN new embodiment playback forms

The trainer Anastasia Vorobyeva is former President of the International Playback Theatre Network

a performance artist, trainer, and social theatre practitioner working internationally in the field of Playback Theatre and contemporary performance.

Anastasia is the co-founder of the VOZDUKH Center of Physical Theatre and has created numerous artistic and social theatre projects across Europe, the United States, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. Her work often focuses on trauma awareness, community dialogue, and the use of theatre and movement in psychosocial support programs.

She has collaborated with international organizations and developed long-term art initiatives in marginalized communities, refugee camps, and post-conflict regions.

Organisers This training is hosted by 'Place au Jeu' a young playback group based in Valence (France). There are fifteen of us, aged 25 to 40, mainly French and Lebanese, most of us queer, with mixed backgrounds and different levels of experience with Playback Theatre. We typically perform for local activists, communities, or non-profits.

Requirements The training is intended for playbackers who have completed a minimum of level 1 (30+ hours) or have been members of a playback group for over a year (see curriculum pathway Center for Playback Theater). Contact us if any doubts !

Finances Full price is 200€. To insure that money is not a barrier to participation, we offer a sliding scale starting at 20€.

Logistics The training will take place in Valence (Drôme) on July 18th and 19th, 2026. Exact timing TBC. Let us know if you need help arranging travel and accomodation.
